Oh, how I love learning a new lullaby especially one inspired by a new baby! Day’s End Lullaby by Karen Cioffi and Robyn Feltman is a beautiful lullaby book.
Karen wrote Day’s End Lullaby when her first daughter was a baby and now it has become a link between generations. Karen says, “I sang it all night long over and over until she slept. Now I sing it to my grandchildren.” The lullaby is entrancing. Once I learned it I found myself humming it throughout the day.
The past few nights my son has asked that I read the lullaby and then sing it before our regular lullabies. I asked him what he liked about the book and he said, “The pictures, Mommy. Can I have a clock with a teddy bear on it, too?”
The illustrations brought me back to my childhood when I would look around my room and wonder what my toys would do without me at night. I would dream up great adventures for them. The lyrics assure children that “The moon is shining bright for you” and that their toys “will be waiting ‘til morning for you to play.” The sheet music for the song is included in the back of the book with a charming piano accompaniment.
If you are looking for a sweet book and a new lullaby to reinforce the lullaby links in your family, Day’s End Lullaby gets my thumb’s up!
