I am so excited to share a new lullaby album with you all!
It is called Laughing Tree Lullabies, Vol. 1 and is the creation of Jessica and Adam Lofbomm who I connected with on Twitter. They graciously offered me a CD to review and it has been in my car ever since. Their version of “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” is better than a second cup of coffee. My son and I sing it in the car on the way to school and I often end up humming it for the rest of the day.
The magic of this album is the combination of fun melodies and spoken word. The creator’s background in teaching languages abroad lends to effortlessly enunciated speech and song as well as a ‘round the world perspective.
I would like to highlight a few of the songs that I especially love. The melody of the traditional Latin American “Pio Pio Pio” is set over a flamenco beat, sounds of children playing, and English translations. This combination draws the listener in and introduces growing minds to new and wonderful sounds.
The Traditional Korean lullaby “Arirang” that they Jessica sings with James Jooyoung Jeong is hypnotic. Once again the English translation is woven into the song and provides listeners with a way to enter the song with understanding.
Finally, “I See the Moon” transports me to sandy beaches where the girl from Ipanema might walk.
Laughing Tree Lullabies volume 1 is completely charming and will delight parents as well as children. It makes ideal car ride music as well as a backdrop for quiet playtime and gets this Lullaby Lady’s thumbs up! I look forward to many more volumes from this dynamic duo.
